The Tau® 4.6L V8 won a Ward?s 10 Best
Engines award in both 2009 and 2010. No other V8 competitor
can claim that?not Lexus, not Mercedes. The high-pressure die-cast
engine block is entirely aluminum. A Variable Induction System (VIS)
improves both low-end torque and high-end horsepower, while Dual
Continuous Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT) maximizes power. Further
details like the timing chain drive system, serpentine belt and iridium
double-tipped spark plugs help make Equus one of the most fuel-efficient
luxury cars in its class.
ZF® TransmissionHyundai engineers partnered with famous German transmission
maker ZF to choose a high-performance transmission specifically for
Equus. Precise gear ratios and lightweight components make the ZF
6-speed is highly responsive and a perfect complement to the Tau® 385 hp
V8. Whether in automatic or SHIFTRONIC® manual shift mode, it also has
the capability to achieve torque converter lock-up in top gear which
dramatically closes the fuel-efficiency gap between automatic and manual
transmissions.
